Before & After: History & Change is designed as an introduction to Hackney past and present. It will provide a context for some of the Hackney Society's work, as outlined on this site.

It enables us to present a range of images and information and look at some of the socio-economic factors that create and change the built environment.

There are three parts: Housing, People and Places. A historical overview is given on the left of each page and before and after sequences of images and captions are on the right. Before and after is not always specific buildings or sites, but is sometimes eras and ways of life, and other subjects are used to do this, eg schools in the People section.
